We are delighted that you have stopped by to find out more about us.
Jersey Children’s Charity was founded in 2011 to support the wonderful staff at the hospital who look after children in the Special Care Baby Unit and Robin Ward. After conducting research, we also found that there was a great need to help support those families whose children are being treated in the UK and to purchase medication and medical equipment when these costs were not met by the States of Jersey.
In our first year, we won a grant of £6,000 from the Jersey Water 100th Anniversary fund and used the money to purchase a Baby Pod Transportation Unit for Robin Ward. The unit allows for the safe transport of infants from Jersey to the UK.
In 2015, we launched our Parent Pack initiative with the support of the staff from Santander International. The parent pack is a bag of essential supplies provided to Robin Ward for families who find themselves staying unexpectedly on the ward.
We are very happy to be working alongside the Family First to provide financial support for families whose children are being treated in the UK. We can provide funding for flights, accommodation, transport, subsistence, childcare, and associated expenses.
Throughout the years, we have supported the team at Robin Ward with purchasing decorations and equipment for the ward. In 2016, we funded the colourful decorations for the walls of the newly refurbished Robin Ward. The decals have made the ward a warmer and more welcoming environment for the young patients. In addition, we purchased toys, uniform, DVDs and a 3D Distraction Centre. The distraction centre is an entertainment system used to distract children during lengthy or painful procedures and have been shown to reduce the stress levels of patients, their parents and caregivers.
Our next project for Robin Ward is to work with local artist, Steph Newington, to create colourful murals in the Robin Ward treatment bays and in other areas of the hospital where children are receiving treatment. A project which has been delayed since the start of the pandemic.
We continue to support dozens of families per year with their expenses relating to their children’s treatment both on and off the island. Our small team works hard to carry on this work to support Jersey families through a difficult period of their lives.
